How to Save a Word Document and Upload it to OneDrive
At the Rapture Library, we understand how busy our patrons are pursuing their ambitions, discovering new things, and driving progress in Rapture. That's why we have published an instructional guide on how to save word documents and upload them to OneDrive, so that your innovations, musings, and highly important research documents and experiments can never be lost.
Step One:
When you want to save your word document, click on the 'File' tab on the upper left-hand corner of the computer screen.
Step Two:
After you have clicked on the 'File' tab, you will be directed to an interface with many options for you to choose what to do with your document. Click on the tab 'Save As' which can be found on the blue sidebar.
Step Three:
When you are directed to the 'Save As' tab, click on the 'Browse' tab which is located underneath the tabs 'This PC' and 'Add a Place'. Clicking the 'Browse' tab will take you to the File Explorer on your computer where you can save your document.
Step Four:
Once you are at the File Explorer, there are couple of options of where to put your document file.
1. You can click on a folder that has been recently used, which can be found at the sidebar on the left-hand side. In the screenshot, the folder 'Very Important Research' has been chosen.
2. If the folder you are looking for does not appear on the sidebar, click on the tab that says 'This PC' which can also be located at the sidebar. Clicking this tab will allow you search your whole PC to find a spot to put your file.
3. You can also use the search bar on the upper right-hand corner of the File Explorer to look for a specific folder. If you are in the tab 'This PC', the computer will match your search to every folder in that computer.
Finally, you can choose to leave the file location as is. In this screenshot, it is currently located in the 'Documents' tab.
Step Five:
Once you have chosen your file location, there are some things you can do for ease of file identification and organisation:
1. You can create a new folder and title it accordingly by clicking on the tab 'New folder' on the upper left-hand side of the File Explorer.
2. You can change the name of the file at the bottom of the File Explorer.
3. Once you are done making changes and organising files and folders accordingly, you can click the tab 'Save' at the bottom right-hand corner of the File Explorer, and the file will be saved in the location you chose for it.
Step Six:
As an added note, you can choose to export your word document as a variety of file types. To do this, click on the 'Save as type' tab at the bottom of the File Explorer, just below the file name bar. Since the most common export is usually a PDF, the screenshot shows where the PDF option is located in the drop-down list. Once you have chosen a file type and are happy with all your adjustments, you can click on the 'Save' tab as explained in the last step.
Step Seven:
Sometimes, you might want to upload your word document to OneDrive for easy sharing and extra security.
Log in to your OneDrive and click on the blue plus symbol on the upper left-hand corner.
Step Eight:
When clicking the blue plus symbol, a variety of options will appear. Regarding file management, you can choose to create a new folder, similar to what you can do at the File Explorer on your computer. You can also upload files and folders from your computer. For the purpose of this guide, click on the option that says 'Files upload'.
Step Nine:
OneDrive will open the File Explorer on computer at the most recent folder location you have used. If your desired file is not there, consider the tips for file searching in Step Four.
1. Once you have chosen a file, click on the file so that is highlighted in blue. Usually, you can click on it twice and it will be uploaded to the OneDrive.
2. Alternatively, after you have clicked on the chosen file, click on the 'Open' tab on the bottom right-hand corner of the File Explorer.
Step Ten:
Your file should be successfully uploaded to OneDrive, provided there are no connectivity issues with the internet.
