Safe Use of Electronic Equipment at Rapture Library

Due to the nature of Rapture being a city submerged in water, the Rapture Library deems the safe use of electronic devices a critical priority. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that all library staff and patrons of the library abide by the WHS guidelines the City has enacted regarding the handling of electronic equipment where applicable:

  • Ensure the equipment you use has been routinely tested and tagged.
  • Visually inspect the equipment, electrical cables, switches and plugs before use; remove or isolate any damaged, frayed or faulty items immediately and organise replacements or repairs as required by the organisation's procedures.
  • Keep water and other liquids away from electrical equipment and switches; make sure your hands are dry.
  • Do not plug power cords into live power points - turn the power off first.
  • Switch off the power and then unplug equipment when not in use; grip the plug when removing it from the wall socket.
  • Unwind cords and leads fully during use to prevent overheating.
  • Don't overload circuits, fuses and power points; use a power board with a surge protector rather than double adaptors.
  • Keep electrical cords and leads away from high traffic areas to reduce damage and the risk of tripping - if unavoidable, then secure them to the floor and/or other structure with strong tape.
  • Use equipment correctly by following operational and safety instructions found in the user manual.
  • Know the location of fire extinguishers and the organisation's evacuation procedure.

Thank you for your cooperation.
